Hi everybody! It was a great meeting on Sunday. I had a lot of fun and I hope you all did too. I can never tell with the teenagers because you're all shouting all the time anyway, but I'm going to take it as a sign of your approval.
For those of you for whom this was your first time in attendance, welcome and thanks for coming. We're always glad to see new faces and I hope you all liked what you saw of our club. We do like to have a good time, and our program director James (also known in Engrish as Jiggaro) ran a fantastic game of musical chairs. Kudos to you, Jiggaro! The following is for the new people. If you're not new, skip to the next paragraph. The Irving Anime club is a place for anime lovers of all ages above 14 to come and enjoy anime and manga. We have a regular meeting and a movie night once a month. The regular meeting is always on the second Sunday of the month from 2-5 PM and the movie night is always the fourth Thursday from 7-9PM. Doors are open a half hour early in both cases. The regular meeting usually consists of some social activity followed by watching a couple of hours of anime. We get free dvds from ADV through their Anime ADVocates program and Funimation through their Operation Anime program. We have to watch at least one episode of each, but we always have time to watch whatever we want, and right now we're watching the entire series of Ouran High School Host Club (although the demand to watch Fruits Basket is also extreme). Refreshments are provided and are free to members. All we ask for is the occasional donation. If you have any questions, write me back or write iplanime@gmail.com to reach both Amanda and me at the same time (we both run the club so feel free to write either of us).
On to news. Well, as you heard me announce at the meeting, the lock-in is indefinitely postponed for reasons we don't need to go into. You shouldn't feel too disappointed though as there is a good chance we can still do it at some later date. Just keep hoping and we'll work on it when we can. To make up for that disappointment, we're going to treat you to a couple of special movie nights. Unfortunately because of the Asian film festival I will not be at the next movie night on Thursday the 23rd, when we'll be showing Jackie Chan's City Hunter, an incredibly awesome and incredibly bad movie. Amanda will be there and she will be treating you all to ice cream sundaes. I hope you like ice cream!
Coming up in September, we've got the next regular meeting on the 9th, and the next movie night on the 27th. Not sure yet what ADV or Funimation will be sending us for September, but we have decided on Kung Pow: Enter the Fist for September's movie night. We'll also be providing pizza and more ice cream sundaes, so make sure you're there. I may also have some more special giveaways, but you can't win 'em if you don't show!
